Mexican singer Jenni Rivera died in a plane crash in northern Mexico, the US aviation officials have confirmed, adding that the plane crash took lives of six others on board the plane, including two pilots, apart from the 43-year-old grupero singer.
Jenni Rivera died on Sunday in Nuevo Leon, in northern Mexico, while on her way back from a concert when Learjet 25 aircraft had disappeared shortly after taking off from Monterrey, and finally crashed. The US National Transportation Safety Board confirmed that the Learjet 25 disintegrated on impact in rugged territory in Nuevo Leon state.
Civil aviation chief Alejandro Argudin told Mexican media that the plane had been “totally destroyed” and the wreckage scattered over a wide area. Transportation and Communications Minister Gerardo Ruiz Esparza said there was “nothing recognisable, neither material nor human” in the wreckage, adding that debris was scattered across a distance of up to 300m (984ft).
The deadly plane crash took lives of Jenni Rivera, two pilots, Arturo Rivera, Jenni Rivera’s makeup artist Jacob Yebale, and two friends, one named Mario Macias and another who was identified as Gerardo.
Jenni Rivera was a judge on TV show ‘The Voice Of Mexico’, had become one of the biggest stars of the Mexican regional style known as grupero music, which is influenced by the norteno, cumbia and ranchero styles. Jenni Rivera recently won two Billboard Mexican Music Awards - Female Artist of the Year and Banda Album of the Year for Joyas Prestadas: Banda.
Jenni Rivera is survived by five children and two grandchildren. ”The number of times I have fallen down is the number of times I have gotten up.”, were Rivera’s words at a press conference after the concert in Monterrey, referring to the recent split from her third husband former Major League Baseball pitcher Esteban Loaiza.
