Commuters of Victoria Tube station are likely to face major changes as the station is undergoing a major makeover worth £700 million spread over six years.
Victoria Tube station is one of the busiest stations in the UK, used by more than 137 million people a year. The station managers assure that the disruptions will be minimal, they have made Underground tickets available in advance to the commuters.
While the work is in progress, five gates will remain open for passengers’ convenience. The south ticket hall expansion has begun. The size of the hall will be doubled with the renovation. The construction work will be shielded with the help of hoardings.
The Wilton Road stairs will be closed for construction from today. A new staircase will be built in 2018 and a new entrance will welcome the commuters near the Cardinal Place shopping mall in 2016.
The Victory Arch entrance to Southeastern mainline national rail services, and pedestrian access in front, will be not be accessible from next month. Taxi rank services at the front of the station will be relocated to Hudson’s Place from Monday. Escalators serving District, Circle and Victoria line platforms will also be renovated next month, with only one escalator at a time to remain out of order for passengers’ convenience.
Posters and leaflets about where to buy tickets in advance and how to buy or top up Oyster, will be available at the station from today.
