Actor Sean Bean, who was arrested yesterday over claims that he harassed his former wife Georgina Sutcliffe and sent her abusive texts and calls, had his fingerprints and DNA taken before a pre-arranged interview with police officers.
“A 53-year-old man attended a central London police station by appointment… where he was arrested and bailed pending further inquiries. He was arrested on suspicion of harassment”, said a Scotland Yard spokesman.
The Game of Thrones actor was bailed as officers continue to investigate the claims. Georgina is believed to have been told of the arrest last night just before she appeared in the West End production of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap.
“Georgina’s a smashing girl and she just wants to get on with her life and move on after the divorce. There’s been no suggestion of there being violence involved or threats but police take harassment allegations seriously”, Mirror quoted a source as saying.
Sutcliffe, 34, met Bean in 2003 when she was managing the bar in a West End theatre in which Bean was playing Macbeth. The couple married in 2008 and got divorced two years later, following a troubled marriage. Reportedly, Bean’s fourth wife left him the same year but they got back together again.
Last year, Bean said that he had finally given up on marriage after four divorces but still believes in love, adding that he want to spend his time gardening. Best known for his performance in ITV Napoleonic war drama Sharpe, Bean married his teenage sweetheart Debra James in 1981, but the pair divorced in 1988.
In 1990 he married actress Melanie Hill and the couple had two daughters together. They were divorced in 1997 and later that year Bean married his Sharpe co-star Abigail Cruttenden. With Abigail he had a daughter the following year but divorced her in 2000. Last night, Bean’s spokesman was unavailable for comment.
