DNA reports of the New Zealand-based girl who looked like Madeleine McCann came out negative, police officials confirmed today. The UK police had requested for DNA tests to be conducted after Madeleine McCann was reportedly found to be seen in New Zealand on New Year’s Eve in Queenstown. But the results proved that the girl is not Madeleine McCann, who disappeared from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal’s Algarve on May 3, 2007.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson confirmed to have been ‘satisfied’ with the DNA results of Madeleine McCann look-alike, who has been mistaken for the missing girl on other occasions as well. This is not the first time that news spread of Madeleine McCann being found. Police had launched a five-day investigation in January when a Queenstown retailer became suspicious of a man and the young girl. The ‘sighting’ on New Year’s Eve was the second time the girl was mistaken for Madeleine last year, the other being in March.

Meanwhile, parents of the missing Madeleine McCann have not give up hope of finding their daughter. Kate McCann took part in a missing persons charity run in London with her doctor husband Gerry McCann said that she is praying for her daughter’s kidnappers, hoping to forgive them.

Kate and Gerry McCann, of Rothley, Leicestershire, have campaigned tirelessly for information on Madeleine McCann’s whereabouts, battling for a review by the Metropolitan Police, which has now been under way for more than 18 months. Portuguese police closed the missing Madeleine McCann case in 2008 after failing to find her.
