Following the Jimmy Savile scandal, Former Radio 1′s Top Of The Pops presenter Dave Lee Travis became the fourth man to be arrested, after police began investigating the allegations of Jimmy Savile’s sexual abuse. As the toll of potential victims rises to 450, Dave Lee Travis was sent out on bail until early January next year.
After being interrogated by Operation Yewtree detectives, Dave Lee Travis was let off, as according to the police he is not suspected of offences directly involving Jimmy Savile, but rather a sequence of investigation that falls under ‘others’ category in the ‘Savile “and others”’ case, as constructed by the police.
Owing to the new development in the Jimmy Savile scandal, Dave Lee Travis was taken “off air with immediate effect” by radio station Magic AM. After his arrest, Dave Lee Travis, was quoted as saying to The Sun, outside his home, “This is nothing to do with kids, all right? That’s the first thing. Because that to me is the most important thing in the world and I do not wish to have my name sullied around something that bloody evil, to be honest.
“The second thing I want is to say, yes, there’s a complete denial there, but there’s nothing else I can tell you because otherwise I might be stepping on the police’s feet and I don’t want to do that because it might affect their investigations.”, he added.
The police have so far arrested and bailed Gary Glitter, Freddie Starr and former producer Wilfred De’ath in connection with their inquiries relating to the Jimmy Savile scandal.
