The police investigating Jimmy Savile scandal arrested Jim Davidson in west London on Wednesday over suspected sexual offences. Veteran comedian Jim Davidson denied the sexual abuse allegations after he was questioned by police for several hours, subsequent to which he was granted bail. A 53-year-old man, who has not been named, was also arrested in Hampshire in connection with the Jimmy Savile sex abuse case, and later bailed.
Jim Davidson was arrested after he flew into London’s Heathrow Airport, following allegations by two women of sexual abuse committed by the comedian 25 years ago on them. Jim Davidson is a famous figure on television, having hosted BBC’s Generation Game and Big Break. Jim Davidson was ridden in controversies in professional as well as personal life. He was criticised for abusive jokes about ethnic communities and gay community. The comedian, who was supposed to appear on TV show Celebrity Big Brother tonight, has been divorced for four times and has faced bankruptcy too.
About the ongoing Jimmy Savile case investigations, Jim Davidson said on his blog that it was a “witch hunt which is going a bit silly now. We all are starting to speculate and accuse … even in jest. So no, I don’t know who’s next. Everyone has had the nod. Everyone is an expert. Just pick someone you don’t like and say it’s them. As odd as he was, Savile can’t defend himself. The bloke’s dead for God’s sake. Let’s move on.”
Operation Yewtree officials, who are investigating the Jimmy Savile sex abuse case, are believed to have spent more than four hours ransacking Jim Davidson’s house yesterday and were seen carrying boxes which appeared to contain plastic evidence bags and brown envelopes last evening when they left his house.
Scotland Yard announced that so far 31 rape allegations have been made against Jimmy Savile. Around 589 people have come forward to give out information about the late BBC presenter, among which 450 complaints related to alleged sexual abuse committed by Jimmy Savile. Jim Davidson is the ninth arrest in the Jimmy Savile sex abuse case, which gets more complicated by each day.
