2Day FM, the Australian radio station whose DJs made a prank call to King Edward VII Hospital where Kate Middleton was undergoing treatment for hyperemesis gravidarum, under the care of nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who eventually committed suicide, has promised to donate £326,000 to Jacintha Saldanha’s family.
Expressing ‘deep regret’ over nurse Jacintha Saldanha’s death, 2Day FM is giving out the money from its advertising profits. 2Day FM owners had cancelled all of its advertising after broadcasting the prank call, in which Australian DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian pretended to be royals taking an update on Kate Middleton’s health, who was being treated for acute morning sickness or hyperemesis gravidarum.
Talks of 2Day FM closing down altogether vanished as the radio station confirmed that it would continue to function as usual excepting that its advertising revenue until the end of the year would go towards Jacintha Saldanha’s family.
The announcement follows a decision by Southern Cross Austereo, the parent company of 2Day FM, today to cancel the 2Day FM’s Christmas party out of respect for Jacintha Saldanha, and donate the cash to two Australian charities that handle emotional, life threatening problems.
2Day FM’s donation decision came as a post-mortem examination is due to be held of the nurse, who allegedly took her own life after she was duped by a prank call made to the hospital treating pregnant Kate Middleton.
Meanwhile, Kate Middleton’s health seems to have worsened as the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William have cancelled the UK premiere of The Hobbit. Kate Middleton and Prince William were set to be guests of honour at tomorrow’s screening of the latest blockbuster as Kate is constantly suffering from nausea and regular vomiting.
