Derbyshire police has arrested parents of six children killed in the Derby house fire today on suspicion of murder.
Mick Philpott, 55, and his wife Mairead, 31, are being questioned by detectives about the fire that broke out at their house in Victory Road, Allenton, in the early hours of May 11, resulting in the deaths of their six children.
Jade Philpott, 10, and brothers John, nine, Jack, seven, Jessie, six, and Jayden, five died in the fire, while Duwayne Philpott, 13, died of his injuries in Birmingham Children’s Hospital two days’ later.
Just two weeks ago the couple, both from Derby, wept uncontrollably while speaking to the media at Derby Conference Centre as police described how petrol had been poured through the family’s letterbox and set alight.
“I suspect there may still be people with crucial information who have not yet come forward to speak to us. In view of the arrests, I would urge anyone who may have been holding back, not felt comfortable to voice their concerns or not had the confidence, to do so now. They have my personal reassurance that we will deal with their information sensitively”, said Assistant Chief Constable Steve Cotterill.
Emphasising that more information is required in the case, Cotterill said, “It is absolutely vital that if you know anything you think could help us, come forward now, do not wait any longer. It is important that we find justice for these six young children.”
Police presence on Victory Road has been increased and forensic examinations are going on at the house. Derbyshire police has requested anyone with information to contact them on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

This is such a sad incident…My heart goes out to all the children…
I still believe these two people are being plotted here. Someone IS in fact holding back crucial information for fear of something, which is adding to the confusion and hampering the investigation.
