Luis Suarez bit Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic on his shoulder in the second half of a Premiere League game between Liverpool and Chelsea on Sunday evening repeating his cannibal act. Despite the anti-sporty spirited act, the Uruguayan went on to score an equalizer in the final minutes of the game as his act went unnoticed by the on-field referee Kevin Friend. The match ended in a 2-2 draw. However Luis Suarez later apologised for his deed.
Later, the visuals confirmed that Luis Suarez had bitten Branislav Ivanovicon on his right shoulder. The Chelsea defender showed referee Kevin Friend the mark on his right arm but Friend, having missed the incident, was powerless to act. This is not something new to Suarez as he had earlier bitten PSV’s Otman Bakkal on the shoulder during a 0–0 draw. He was suspended for two games and was fined an undisclosed amount which the club said they would donate to a “good cause”.
For his act, he should have not been on the field to continue playing but referees missed out on this while a cross is underway. The Premiere League Football association has already failed to look and punish plenty of on-field offences in the recent past. Speculations are such that after the confirmation of visual evidences, Luis Suarez might be banned at least for this season.
The video evidence is quite clear; as an attempted cross is blocked, Suarez and Ivanovic clash, and the Liverpool striker grabs his opponent’s arm and sinks his teeth in. While his own team banned him and fined for two games, the Dutch FA imposed a seven-match ban on Luis Suarez.
