Kate Middleton and her husband Prince William have won an injunction that would prevent French Closer magazine from further publication of Kate Middleton’s nude pictures that show her sunbathing in a French Château where she was holidaying with her husband Prince William.
The Tribunal de Grande Instance in Nanterre, Paris, granted the royal couple the injunction, after their privacy was encroached by a French photographer, who captured a naked Kate Middleton.
The couple won £4,034 in damages in a civil court, which also declared a ban on Closer magazine. The court also agreed to fine Closer magazine £8,070 per day if the injunction is not respected, and £80,720 if the photos are sold.
The lawyers representing Mondadori, the Italian publishing group which owns Closer magazine, told the court that they did not own the photos in order to sell them. Mondadori-owned Italian Chi magazine also published a 26-page edition featuring Kate Middleton’s nude pictures. Also, another Nanterre court opened criminal investigation into the claims.
It may be noted that the Irish Daily Star has suspended its editor Michael O’Kane, for publishing the explicit images, however, investigation into the newspaper’s decision to print the pictures remains pending.
The scandal began last week when Closer magazine published nude pictures of Kate Middleton, while she enjoyed a private holiday with her husband Prince William in France.
Currently, William and Kate are in South Pacific as a part of their Diamond Jubilee tour, travelling to remote locations such as the Island nation of Tuvalu.
