Andrew Lancel, former Coronation Street actor, has been charged with five counts of child sexual abuse, which were allegedly perpetrated by Andrew Lancel 20 years ago, when he was a trainee actor.
Andrew Lancel, however, mentioned to the reporters, as he arrived at the Liverpool theatre, that he would contest the charges against him. He expressed his steadfast desire to clear his name over the sex abuse charges against him.
The child sex abuse allegation against the 42-year-old Andrew Lancel is that he indecently assaulted a ‘victim’ under the age of 16.
Andrew Lancel, a married father, has come to the Liverpool theatre to participate in a play about the Beatles manager, Brian Epstein. The man seemed weary and overwhelmed by stressfulness. He couldn’t be identified easily in black-rimmed glasses.
Professionally, Andrew Lancel is quite occupied at the moment as he is also scheduled to star in a panto production of Sleeping Beauty in Liverpool.
Stuart Nolan, the solicitor of Andrew Lancel, has voiced that his client strenuously rejects the sex abuse allegations against him. As per Nolan, Andrew Lancel is sure that his blamelessness will be established in the fullness of time. Stuart Nolan has expressed that Andrew Lancel was invited by the police to assist with an inquiry, initiated by one plaintiff, which related to sexual abuse events that allegedly occurred 20 years back.
The man at the centre of the sexual abuse controversy tweeted on Friday night that the support of his fans means a lot to him. He urged them to continue their faith in him.
On Friday, Andrew Lancel was charged under his real name, Andrew Watkinson, before being discharged on bail.
A spokesman for the Merseyside Police has verified that Andrew Lancel has been charged under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 with five counts of indecent assault on a child under 16. He has been bailed to emerge at South Sefton Magistrates’ Court on December 19.
Andrew Lancel is renowned for enacting the character of Frank Foster in the ITV soap, Coronation Street.
